Dublin Dining Adventures: Discovering the Flavors of Ireland’s Capital

When you think of Ireland, stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and a lively pub culture might come to mind. But let’s not overlook one of the most delicious aspects of any trip: the food! On my recent journey through Ireland with 40 travel agents and Brendan Vacations—a company renowned for its expertly curated guided vacations—we set out to uncover the best experiences the Emerald Isle has to offer. Naturally, food played a starring role. Our adventure began in Dublin, and the city did not disappoint. From rooftop views to late-night bites, here are some of our collective favorites from the heart of Ireland’s capital.

Lunch at The Bank on College Green

Our culinary exploration kicked off at The Bank on College Green, a stunningly elegant venue that combines historic charm with modern dining. Once a 19th-century bank, this architectural gem features high ceilings, ornate woodwork, and an atmosphere that’s both sophisticated and welcoming. The food, however, was the true highlight. I opted for the Guinness Pie, which was hearty, flavorful, and absolutely worth a try. One of my colleagues, Kari, raved about the Eggs Benedict: “The best I’ve ever had! I’m trying to get their hollandaise recipe,” she exclaimed. Whether you’re craving a leisurely lunch or a quick bite before sightseeing, The Bank delivers in every way.

Dinner with a View at Sophie’s Rooftop Restaurant

For dinner, we headed to Sophie’s Rooftop Restaurant at The Dean Hotel, a trendy spot that offers breathtaking views of the Dublin skyline. The atmosphere here is chic yet relaxed, making it the perfect place for a memorable evening. The staff truly went above and beyond to ensure our group had a fantastic experience, and the menu was packed with fresh, flavorful options. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want to enjoy dinner with a view, Sophie’s is a must-visit.

Late-Night Snack: Spice Bag from Xi’An Street Food

No trip to Dublin would be complete without a late-night snack, and we found a local favorite: the Spice Bag from Xi’An Street Food. For those unfamiliar, a Spice Bag is a glorious mix of crispy chicken, hand-cut fries, peppers, onions, and a blend of spices, all tossed together in a paper bag. It’s the ultimate comfort food, perfect for sharing (or not!). You can enjoy it in person at their restaurant or have it delivered straight to your hotel lobby via Deliveroo. Either way, it’s an experience worth trying.

The Best Fish & Chips: Leo Burdock’s

If you’re on the hunt for the best fish & chips in Dublin, Leo Burdock’s comes highly recommended by our Irish tour escort. Established in 1913, this iconic takeaway spot is beloved by locals and visitors alike for its perfectly battered fish and chunky chips. With several locations in the city it’s a must-visit for traditional Irish fish & chips.

Notable Pubs: Kennedy’s and The Hairy Lemon

Dublin’s pub culture is legendary, and two spots stood out during Jean’s visit: Kennedy’s and The Hairy Lemon. Kennedy’s, located near Trinity College, offers a cozy atmosphere and a menu that blends traditional Irish fare with modern favorites. Meanwhile, The Hairy Lemon—a quirky pub named after a local legend—is known for its lively ambiance and hearty dishes, including their famous Irish stew. Both spots are perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner with a side of history.

Pub Culture Lessons and Live Music

As we ventured into Dublin’s pubs in search of live music and good food, we quickly learned an important lesson from a friendly local: “What you’re looking for doesn’t exist in Dublin. Go grab a burger and then go for the music.” True to their advice, many of us enjoyed casual meals before heading to pubs solely focused on live music. Dublin’s music scene truly comes alive on the weekends, with countless spots showcasing talented local performers. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Final Thoughts

From elegant dining rooms to casual takeaways, Dublin’s food scene is as diverse as it is delicious. While we may have gained a few pounds during our stay, it was well worth it. Thankfully, our next stop in Killarney gave us plenty of opportunities to walk it off as we continued our Irish adventure. If you’re planning a trip to Dublin, make sure to bring your appetite and a sense of culinary curiosity—you won’t be disappointed!
