Top Honeymoon Spots in Europe

Couple with bikes looking at river view.

Romantic bicycle ride for two

Europe is one of the world’s most enticing and exciting travel destinations—especially when it comes to romance. Choose to honeymoon in Europe, and you can experience just about anything, from a cruise around the Greek isles to wine tasting in Tuscany to bar-hopping in Dublin. Here’s a quick look at several of the best honeymoon destinations in Europe:

Italy

While the word “Italy” might instantly conjure up idyllic images of verdant green hills specked with peach-colored villas, this country has a delightful diversity beyond its rural villages, like the fashion of Milan, the art of Florence, and the otherworldliness of Venice. Anywhere you turn, you’ll come face to face with history, and you’re never far from a life-changing glass of wine and plate of pasta (with extra truffles, please!).

England

Though you speak the same language, that’s pretty much where the similarities end. From shopping the trendiest boutiques in London to strolling through beautiful countryside in the Cotswolds, there’s an impressive score of experiences to be had. Get a sense of all that came before when you visit museums and castles and then, no matter where you are in the country, recharge with a plate of authentic fish and chips at a locals-only pub.

France

Though roughly the size of Texas, France manages to offer what seems like a world of romantic options, from strolling hand-in-hand through the lavender fields of Provence to frolicking in the surf along the French Riviera to kissing at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. You’ll also enjoy access to world-class delights like fashion and food, wine and water (with the Mediterranean, North Sea, English Channel, and Rhine River). Ooh la love!

Greece

With a coastal landscape unlike anywhere else on earth—boasting bright-white villages hugging cliffs that extend down towards the twinkling azure sea—Greece is distinctly and delightfully itself. Savor fresh seafood and incredible wine as you get to know honeymoon-friendly islands like Santorini and Mykonos, with their iconic clusters of cube-shaped homes and caldera views. After a day spent exploring this country’s ancient past, return to the present in a flash with an evening dissolving into its electric nightlife.

Ireland

The Emerald Isle is a gem of a honeymoon destination. Though you speak the same language, you’re definitely far from home. There’s lots to see and do here, from touring a fairytale castle to sipping Guinness in a proper pub. Cities like Dublin offer an urban escape, but renting a car (or hopping on a train) is a must, to visit a charming countryside known for its 40 shades of green and truly friendly locals.

7 Secrets: Adult Only Resorts

honeymooners

A honeymoon is a most grown-up trip. Allow yourself the freedom to do exactly what you want, when you want to—without endless bills and far from tantrumming toddlers—when you stay at an all-inclusive resort. But not just any all-inclusive resort! As a Romance Travel Specialist, I’ve planned honeymoons for two decades and I know exactly which resorts translate into a truly unforgettable and enjoyable honeymoon; here’s a look at some of the favorites:

#1 Sandals Resorts—Jamaica, Antigua, St Lucia, Barbados, and Grenada

This is your ultra-all-inclusive choice, with stunning tropical settings (and some of the world’s best beaches), lovely accommodations, and gourmet candlelit dining options with unlimited beverages, as well as exciting water sports and golf included at every resort. Secret: With more than 20 room types, it’s hard to know which to choose—let me help you decode the choices so you get exactly what you want.

#2 Secrets Resorts—Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica

This option redefines the very idea of all-inclusive with Unlimited-Luxury®, providing a sophisticated setting with superb personal service and world-class amenities (like unlimited access to daytime activities, live nightly entertainment, and top-shelf spirits). Secret: This is your best-value option; if you want to experience even more luxury, choose the Preferred Club for an upgraded suite, access to an exclusive lounger, special concierge service, and more.

#3 Karisma Resorts—Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica

Here, you’re treated like family with an all-inclusive experience that’s based upon an authentic commitment to personal service and ultimate comfort. You’ll certainly appreciate their focus on complete luxury, which spans from stunning architecture to the anticipation of your every need. It’s also worth noting that their luxe offerings are made in tandem with sustainable practices and community support. Secret: Stay at one of their Gourmet Inclusive® properties to savor fine meals crafted from fresh ingredients; this is an especially delectable option for those with special dietary needs, including vegans, vegetarians, celiac, and gluten-free diners.

#4 Couples Resorts—Jamaica

On one island, four unique and uniquely wonderful resorts tempt you, each with its own personality (casual to retro glam), and a made-for-play-and-pampering environment. What’s included? Pretty much everything, from golf and tennis to PADI-certified scuba diving and catamaran cruises to gourmet dining and premium-brand spirits. Secret: Honeymoon extras are available, and you can boost the love with a Romance Package and by planning unforgettable experiences with their Romance Concierge.

#5 Boutique Resorts—Worldwide

Your choices for all-inclusive resorts include utterly unique, boutique resorts around the world. Here’s a little insight on a few favorites in the Caribbean.

  • Galley Bay—Antiqua

This rustic-chic getaway is set on a long stretch of white-sand beach, with a smattering of accommodations set amid 40 acres along the warm, clean Caribbean. Leave your wallet behind when you visit one of their three romantic open-air restaurants, attend a cocktail party or beach BBQ, or get your adrenalin flowing from a full array of water sports, tennis, and more. Secret: Honeymooners here get VIP check-in and fruit or flowers and sparkling wine or champagne upon arrival; you can also add on one of two Honeymoon Packages, which might include a romantic champagne picnic on a secluded beach or a soothing one-hour aromatherapy massage for two.

  • Sivory Punta Cana—Dominican Republic (DR)

At the edge of the Caribbean, this intimate resort invites you to experience peace and quiet along with an authentic DR experience. In addition to pleasures like a holistic spa and artful restaurant, the staff here has perfected the art of anticipation, from a just-when-you-need-it refill on your cocktail while you lounge by the infinity pool to an offer to take your honeymoon-selfie while you stroll the sand at sunset. Secret: The most memorable (and convenient) way to arrive at this remote resort? By helicopter, of course! And forget about some out-of- the-way landing zone—you’ll touch down directly onto the beach. Talk about kicking off your honeymoon in style.

  • Calabash Cove Resort & Spa— Lucia

There’s no doubt the two of you will fall in love with Calabash Cove—it is, after all, set on St. Lucia, one of the most romantic spots anywhere, with its glorious (and iconic) twin peaks, white-sand beaches, and tropical foliage. All this loveliness is perfectly enhanced back at the resort, where everything seems designed to encourage alone-time, from its exotic gardens full of secret pathways and hidden spots to your very own private island cottage. Secret: Three words—water’s edge cottage. A mere nine luxe-tropical cottages are set along the surf, each offering breathtaking sunset views along with a secluded plunge pool, Jacuzzi®, outdoor rain shower, and hammock. The only intruders on your private revelry? The island hummingbirds, which are drawn to the flora surrounding each cottage.

BONUS SECRET —

While not technically “adults-only” there are many resorts and boutique hotels that cater to adults looking for a romantic getaway and many offer an optional meal plan. A cliffside retreat on the island of Santorini, a rainforest hotel in Costa Rica, and island-resort in Belize, an overwater bungalow in Tahiti, a tented camp in Africa…. your options are endless.

There’s so much more where this came from! Let me assist you in finding your just-right honeymoon experience, whether it’s at an all-inclusive resort or a private vacation home, or anything in between. I know the world and how best to travel it—and my job, my passion, is making travel dreams come true. (See how this process works, and the many benefits of using a travel agent.)

Your Honeymoon: Where To Go When

Rain every day. Crowds everywhere. Exorbitant prices for everything. These are experiences you definitely want to avoid on your honeymoon. But how? By working with a Romance Travel Specialist like me! I will help you navigate your options to find that just-right destination based on your travel style and the month you honeymoon. Here’s a quick look at several popular honeymoon destinations:

Europe

  • Summer (June through September): During this peak travel season, the weather is delightful—if you like it hot—but crowds and prices are at their highest levels;
  • Spring and Fall: Weather can be unpredictable but is usually ideal, crowds are low, and prices are moderate; and
  • Winter (December through March): Weather can be an issue and some sights could be closed (and in places like the Greek Isles and Amalfi coast, it’s downright sleepy during the winter) but crowds are non-existent and bargains are yours for the taking.

The Caribbean

  • Summer (July through October): During this low season, the weather can be rainy and stormy, but crowds are minimal and prices are affordable;
  • Spring and Fall: Weather is mild, as are the crowds and prices; and
  • Winter (December through April): Weather is pure perfection, but it comes at a cost, with high crowds and prices—also, early-booking is key.

The South Pacific

  • Tahiti: This is a year-round destination, but there tends to be more rain in the Winter (January through April) and prices, while expensive, tend to dip slightly—there are also limited air options, so booking early is essential not only for availability but to give you time to budget for the trip;
  • Australia/New Zealand: Their summer is North America’s winter, so their peak travel season occurs from December through March—the crowds may have descended, but the weather is so perfect, you won’t mind, and it’s such a long way to go, you don’t want to make the (long) trip, and then experience unpleasant weather.

Hawaii

  • Life is easy on the islands of Hawaii, and so is planning a trip here—with awesome year-round weather, and no definitive seasons other than US holiday time periods, this is one place where you’ll have the best experience, any month of the year.

These are just a few of your many honeymoon destination options. When we work together, you’ll get advice that’s tailor-made just for the two of you. With 20 years as a Romance Travel Specialist, let me be your honeymoon’s secret weapon. My job, my passion, is making travel dreams come true. 4 Honeymoon Mistakes to Avoid

couple_vespa

There’s tremendous pressure for a honeymoon to deliver a flawless experience—after all, this trip sets the tone for your life together. As a Romance Travel Specialist, I’ve planned honeymoons for two decades and I can help you avoid all-too-common honeymoon-planning mistakes like these:

Putting Off Your Planning

Waiting to make arrangements narrows down availability and choice, for everything from your seat on the plane to your treatments at the spa. This is one time when it doesn’t pay to be spontaneous. Instead, make all your arrangements six to nine months in advance to enjoy for the greatest options in elements like room type that can really make or break your honeymoon. I also recommend booking this far ahead because it opens up the possibility for you to pay for your honeymoon in installments.

Not Being True To You

The best honeymoon is like looking into a mirror: It reflects the two of you. Don’t be influenced by a friend’s fabulous honeymoon or a super-trendy destination you keep reading about. The whole point of a honeymoon is to enjoy being where you are, together, and you won’t do that in a place that doesn’t reflect your travel style and interests. While it’s certainly wise to talk with friends and get inspiration from all around you, it’s most important to be honest with what you both want, and tailor the trip from there. After I get to know you, I might recommend a honeymoon experience you’d never considered (or never even heard of!) based on your shared preferences and interests. Be open to anywhere in the world—from a European city to a Caribbean island to a cruise around Alaska—and be open to surprises.

Being Vague

The level of detail in planning the perfect honeymoon is staggering—there is literally a world of options at your fingertips. From destination to activity level, you two have a lot of decisions to make. Speak up and be specific about what’s important to you. And define what you mean: “Relaxing” for you might mean cliff-diving and not lounging in a hammock, as one would assume. I know just which questions to ask to help you narrow down the choices to your one perfect experience.

Pretending To Be A Travel Agent

The Internet has turned many people into (frustrated) travel agents. But just because you have access to lots of information doesn’t mean you have access to good information, or any genuine insight. Yes, a travel agent does make her or his living by booking trips for others, but you’re not necessarily going to pay more for your honeymoon by using a travel agent; in fact, you might even save money… and you’ll certainly save time and energy, while enjoying a much more personal, customized experience, utilizing their first-hand knowledge and their contacts around the world. As a Romance Travel Specialist, my job, my passion, is matching couples with their just-right trips. (See how this process works, and the many benefits of using a travel agent.)

You have a lot of decisions ahead of you as you plan your honeymoon, and I hope you see that one of your best decisions is to work with me. I will be your invaluable asset—my job, my passion, is making travel dreams come true.

Top Honeymoon Tips

beachwedAs a Romance Travel Specialist, I believe your honeymoon is just as important as your wedding—maybe even more so!—and, to help you plan and enjoy the honeymoon that best reflects the two of you, I’d like to share a few of my top honeymoon-planning tips:

Know Where To Go

A honeymoon is all about the two of you. So don’t pick a destination because it’s known to be romantic or because it’s trendy or because it’s a good deal; pick a place that best reflects you. Be open to anywhere in the world—from a European city to a Caribbean island to a cruise around Alaska—and be open to surprises. After I get to know you, I might recommend a honeymoon experience you’d never considered (or never even heard of!) based on your shared preferences and interests.

Know Where To Stay

Once you’ve selected a destination, you then have to find accommodations. With a world of options, from high-end resorts to private vacation homes for rent, this can be daunting. The secret is to focus most on your shared vacation preferences, including type of accommodations (like a mountain retreat or beach resort) and style (like independent or all-inclusive). I know just which questions to ask to help you narrow down your list, helping you arrive at that one perfect experience.

Know When To Book

Spontaneity has no place in honeymoon planning. This is one time when all the arrangements should be made well ahead of time, after plenty of thought and consideration. Making arrangements six to nine months in advance allows for the greatest options in elements (like room type) that can really make or break your honeymoon. I also recommend booking this far ahead because it opens up the possibility for you to pay for your honeymoon in installments.

Know What To Spend

Just like you set a budget for your wedding, set a budget for your honeymoon. By doing so, you’ll avoid cutting corners and compromising on the trip that sets the tone for your married life. Working together, I’ll see that you get the best experience while you get the most out of every dollar.

You have a lot of decisions ahead of you as you plan your honeymoon, and I hope you see that one of your best decisions is to work with me. With 20 years as a Romance Travel Specialist, I will be your invaluable asset. My job, my passion, is making travel dreams come true. (See how this process works, and the many benefits of using a travel agent.)

About Me

I’ve come nose-to-nose with a giraffe during an African safari. I’ve strolled along the ancient pathways of Machu Picchu. I’ve honeymooned in the Australian Outback. I’ve stayed in villas, enjoyed all-inclusive vacations, and gone on cruises and escorted bus tours. Collectively, these experiences—and many, many more—add up to a pretty impressive travel resume but, more importantly, they make me a great choice for your go-to travel agent. Read More…
